Midwife in a warzone

The RCM Zepherina Veitch Lecture presents the best in contemporary midwifery thought and leadership in commemoration of one of the pioneers of modern midwiferyEach year we invite a key inspirational midwifery leader to deliver the lecture and this year it will be delivered by Wendy Warrington in recognition of her outstanding contribution to improving access to maternity care for those fleeing the war in Ukraine and supporting those who continue to provide care to women and families there.   

Wendy is a semi retired community midwife, nurse, university lecturer and humanitarian aid coordinator for Ukraine . Wendy was the winner of the Best Midwife award at The Sun’s Who Cares Wins Awards in 2022 and was shortlisted for Outstanding Contribution to Midwifery services at the 2023 RCM awards. Wendy is an innovator of the successful programme Breaking the Cycle of repeat removal of babies . She is passionate about making a difference to improve outcomes for children and families and believes in intervening early to make a real difference to children and young people. Wendy is a devoted grandmother of six and parental carer .
