World Breastfeeding Week 2016

29 July, 2016

World Breastfeeding Week 2016

The theme for this year’s World Breastfeeding Week (WBW), set to take place next week (1 to 7 August), is ‘Breastfeeding: a key to sustainable development’.

The theme of WBW is breastfeeding in relation to sustainability, and most importantly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) hoped to be achieved by 2030.

The aim is to get people thinking about how to value their wellbeing from the start of life, how to respect each other and care for the world.

The objectives are to inform people about the new SDGs and how they relate to breastfeeding and infant and young child feeding, and to firmly anchor breastfeeding as a key component of sustainable development.

WBW is coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action, a global network of individuals and organisations concerned with the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding worldwide.
