The RCM has released a statement that says it hopes the next government invests in maternity services.
It has done so after earlier today (18 April) the Prime Minister Theresa May called for a general election on 8 June 2017.
Jon Skewes, RCM director for policy, employment relations and communications, said: ‘We want to see the next government invest in the NHS, invest in maternity services and invest in the welfare and pay of NHS staff so that they can provide safe and high quality services for the people they care for.’
The Prime Minister said she had taken the decision as certainty, stability and strong leadership are needed following the EU referendum.
‘The country is coming together but Westminster is not,’ she said.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn welcomed the election, calling it a chance to get a government that puts ‘the majority first’.
