Since 1992, the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) has dedicated 5th May as International Day of the Midwife (IDM)
IDM is an awareness day that globally recognises midwives and the work they do, to ensure mothers and their families receive the quality care they deserve.
From 29th April leading up to 5th May, we’re inviting our members across the UK (including midwives, MSWs, student midwives, members of trusts, RCM branches and midwifery societies) to hold events in support of IDM 2019.
This year's theme is Midwives: defenders of women's rights
By supporting women in their care, midwives are faced with those who experience homelessness, domestic abuse, female genital mutilation (FGM) and much more. They are often protectors of women’s rights as well as champions of their health and safety. IDM2019 is an ideal time to shout about the incredible work they do.
