Peripartum Cardiomyopathy webinar
PPCM – what it is, how to recognise it, when to refer.
A webinar for all midwives in Heart Failure Awareness Week. A collaboration between the RCM and the UK Maternal Cardiology Society (UKMCS).
PPCM is a rare but potentially life-threatening form of cardiac disease which occurs exclusively in and around pregnancy.
This webinar will discuss:-
- Symptoms of PPCM
- How to recognise when common pregnancy symptoms are no longer normal.
- The impact of experiencing PPCM (a patient perspective)
- Diagnosis and management of PPCM
Cardiac disease is the leading cause of indirect maternal death in the UK. It can occur for the first time in pregnancy. Early diagnosis enables earlier treatment and leads to quicker recovery.
Key message to midwives: ‘Be the person to hear and act’.
