RCM Wales launches pay survey for members

The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) is calling all midwives and maternity support workers in Wales to have their say on pay.

In August the Pay Review Body recommended a 3% pay award which has since been applied to RCM members’ salaries. RCM Wales felt its members deserved more and pressed for further talks with the Welsh Government. Now as part of its Deliver a Decent Deal campaign the RCM has secured an enhanced offer.

Today the RCM launches a consultation with its members in Wales on the improved offer and is urging members to complete a brief survey

Commenting, RCM’s National Officer for Wales Vicky Richards said:

“While it’s good news that our members in Wales will already be seeing the 3% pay award in their bank accounts, we believed that they deserved more. As part of our Deliver a Decent Deal campaign the RCM, alongside other NHS unions in Wales, have continued pay talks with the Welsh Government to see if they could enhance the deal. Keeping that dialogue open has been important and our negotiations have brought about an enhanced offer from the Welsh Government.”

The RCM has secured an offer of an additional day’s annual leave, pro rata, for all employed NHS staff, which would be recurrent. In addition, they have also secured a non-consolidated (non-pensionable) additional payment of 1% for those on bands 1-5. This payment would not be pro rata.

Vicky added: “We are urging all members to take our brief survey and indicate whether they accept or reject the updated deal. It’s crucial we gather the views of all our members in Wales so we can decide the next steps for our pay campaign.”

Members in Wales can complete the survey here or via their branch Facebook pages and just need their membership number. The RCM will also be emailing its members more information this week and are asking all members to ensure their contact details are up to date, RCM members can update their contact details and preferences so they are receiving all the latest news and information from the RCM via its weekly newsletters here https://www.rcm.org.uk/login/

The RCM’s survey opens today (10 November) and closes at 5pm on Wednesday 8 December.
