Ireland's birth stories to feature in RCM book

The RCM is calling on midwives and mothers of Ireland to get in touch with their birth stories for a book to be published in 2018.

The publication is to celebrate 100 years of the Midwives Act in Ireland.

The RCM in Northern Ireland will collate 100 accounts, experiences and photographs from throughout Ireland, but particularly from midwives in Northern Ireland.

The stories will reflect the changing birth practices influenced by both the inception of the NHS and the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

Several events will be held throughout the year, including a civic reception to celebrate the role of the midwife.

For members wishing to contribute to the book, stories and images should be sent to the RCM, 58 Howard Street, Belfast BT1 6PJ or by email to centennial@rcm.org.uk.

For further information, contact Anne Marie O’Neill on 0300 303 0444.

Contributions must be sent before 1 September 2017.
