England: Round 2 HEE/NIHR ICA Pre-doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship (PCAF) scheme competition launched

Calling all midwives!

NIHR want to see more midwives and nurses becoming independent investigators. Please note: you get paid clinical development time by NIHR.

The PCAF scheme supports early career researchers to:

*    Undertake a personalised academic training programme
*    Prepare an application for a doctoral level research training fellowship
*    Continue to develop their clinical role

Applicants should currently be one of the ICA programme eligible professions.

The PCAF scheme is a two-year award full time or it can be taken part-time (60% - 95% FTE). During that time award holders will split their time equally between their clinical position and the training and development funded through the PCAF scheme.

What's new for PCAF scheme in Round 2?

Full-time academic training option Applicants can request a 12-month award undertaking the academic training full time.

Paid clinical development time

Applicants can request up to 20% clinical development time, paid for through the award and constituting part of the academic training time.
