The maternity unit of Causeway Hospital has expanded its choice for pregnant women with the official launch of a new birthing pool.
Maternity staff welcomed Cathy Warwick, RCM chief executive, to officially open the pool. Service users were also in attendance and were all impressed with the new facility.
Caroline Diamond, lead midwife for maternity inpatients, said: ‘The use of water as pain relief during labour and birth has been found to be very effective, resulting in less use of pain relief and providing a positive experience for our mothers.
‘We are delighted with the new facility and that we can now offer mothers a wider choice in terms of how they labour and deliver.’
