‘Hywel Dda Health Board in Wales sign up to RCM staff wellbeing charter’

Hywel Dda University Health Board have become the latest health board in Wales with maternity services to sign up to the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Caring for You charter.

The health and wellbeing charter is part of the RCMs latest health and wellbeing campaign Caring for you.

The Caring for You campaign aims to improve midwives and maternity workers health, safety and wellbeing at work so they are able to provide the highest quality maternity care for women and their families. 

The campaign which was devised as a direct response to the needs of over worked midwives not only in Wales but right across the UK.

Commenting RCMs National Officer for Wales Vicky Richards says; “The RCM is delighted that yet another health board in Wales has committed to the RCMs Caring for You charter.

The charter includes commitments to make sure that members of staff are taking adequate rest breaks as well as staying properly hydrated during their shifts. There is also a strong focus on fostering a positive working environment.

It’s great to see Hywel Dda University Health Board commit to further improving the health and wellbeing of their midwifery workforce which will in turn improve the care that women and their babies receive.”

Julie Jenkins, Head of Midwifery for Hywel Dda University Health Board said: “Signing up for the Royal College Midwives “Caring for You" campaign,  which has the aim of improving  staff’s safety and wellbeing, clearly demonstrates the important message from the Health Board on the importance of this initiative.

"The Health Board recognises the benefits to staff and service users from a supportive and compassionate workplace. People perform better when they are confident and motivated in the workplace and good health and wellbeing is the foundation to this happening.

"This complements our recently launched organisational values, designed by staff for staff, which shape the future delivery of services across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

 

*The Royal College of Midwives’ Caring for You Campaign aims to improve RCM members’ health, safety and wellbeing at work so they are able to provide high quality maternity care for women and their families. 

The RCM are asking all NHS organisations to support Heads of Midwifery in the UK to sign up to the RCM’s Caring for You Charter to show their commitment to improve midwives’; student midwives’; and maternity support workers’ health safety and wellbeing at work so they are able to give even better care for women and their families.
