‘Cardiff and Vale University Health Board sign RCM wellbeing charter’

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board have become the latest health board in Wales with maternity services to sign up to the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Caring for You charter.

The health and wellbeing charter is part of the RCMs latest health and wellbeing campaign Caring for you.

The Caring for You campaign aims to improve midwives and maternity workers health, safety and wellbeing at work so they are able to provide the highest quality maternity care for women and their families. 

The campaign which was devised as a direct response to the needs of over worked midwives not only in Wales but across the UK.

Commenting RCMs National Officer for Wales Vicky Richards says; “The RCM is delighted that yet another health board in Wales has committed to the RCMs Caring for You charter.

The charter includes commitments to make sure that members of staff are taking adequate rest breaks as well as staying properly hydrated during their shifts. There is also a strong focus on fostering a positive working environment.

It’s  great to see Cardiff and Vale Health Board commit  to further improving the health and wellbeing of their midwifery workforce which will in turn improve the care that women and their babies receive.”

Suzanne Hardacre, Head of Midwifery at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said; “We take the wellbeing of our staff very seriously and we are delighted to have signed up to the Caring for You charter to demonstrate working in partnership with our local RCM health and safety representatives to improve the health, safety and wellbeing of our midwives, students and maternity support workers.

 “We are very proud of the service we provide to women, babies and their families in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

“With continued support from the RCM, our commitment to the Caring for You Charter will positively impact the care we provide to women, their babies and their families and I look forward to implementing the action plan developed by our local health and safety representatives.

“We will ensure that our signed charters are displayed throughout all areas of the service to show the commitment we have made to RCMs campaign.”

*The Royal College of Midwives’ Caring for You Campaign aims to improve RCM members’ health, safety and wellbeing at work so they are able to provide high quality maternity care for women and their families. 

The RCM are asking all NHS organisations to support Heads of Midwifery in the UK to sign up to the RCM’s Caring for You Charter to show their commitment to improve midwives’; student midwives’; and maternity support workers’ health safety and wellbeing at work so they are able to give even better care for women and their families.
