Julie Richards

I have 20 years clinical experience as a midwife in hospital, birth centre and community settings. Highlights from my midwifery experience include increasing homebirth services to 12%, being part of setting up a day assessment unit for high risk women and implemented a new model for supervision of midwives in Wales. I am currently working as Women and Children’s Service Manager for Powys teaching Health Board

As a previous Local Supervising Midwifery Officer I have a strong knowledge of professional regulation and passionate about supporting midwives to obtain the best outcomes for themselves as clinicians but also to ensure high quality safe care provided to women and their families. I have worked as a Head of Midwifery so have skills within workforce planning, governance, risk management and meeting financial challenges.

Throughout my career I have held a strong belief in what the Royal College of Midwives as a trade union and professional association has to offer midwives, student midwives and maternity support workers. As a RCM Board member I see the priorities as to protect the RCM's assets, continuing to ensure fair pay for midwives, safe staffing levels and the opportunities for continued professional development.
