International Day of the Midwife 2016

International Day of the Midwife 2016

Celebrate International Day of the Midwife May 5th 2016

International Day of the Midwife (IDM) is the 5th May 2016. The RCM will be supporting IDM  in a slightly different way this year. We are taking a break from putting on a celebration day for some of the profession as we would like to encourage more of the profession to get involved at a local level via their RCM Branches.

We believe that IDM 2016 is  important as we consider the sustainable development goals and what that means to women and their babies at a global level. We also want to keep a focus on RCM Branches celebrating IDM in a local way.

The ICM theme for 2016 is Women and Newborns: The Heart of  Midwifery ,Midwives around the world work hard every day to ensure women and newborns receive the quality care  that they deserve.

  • We would encourage you to bake cakes to raise funds, organise raffles etc and provide local seminars, study events  or discussions around this theme in the usual way.
  • Access the ICM  resource pack and artwork which will help you to plan your celebrations via the ICM webpage at: www.internationalmidwives.org
  • Participate in the IDM  activity “I am a midwife and this is what I do” on social media. Please  do tag in @MidwivesRCM
  • Keep the RCM informed by tweeting @MidwivesRCM and Facebooking what you are up to as part of your celebrations  at a local level
  • Get involved with the Annual Virtual International Day of the Midwife (VDM) conference  a virtual 24 hr on line conference on 4,5,6, May depending on the countries time zone starting at 22.00hours on Wednesday May 4th. You will need to register first . Here is the link: www.vidm.wikispaces.com
