Fellowship application process

The RCM Fellowship scheme is open for applications between 1st November 2018 – 7th January 2019.

Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility criteria for admission to Fellowship are:

  • registered midwife (in the UK with NMC) practising for more than 7 years
  • continuous full RCM membership (including joint agreement)/special category associate/overseas membership for five years prior to application.
  • evidence of formal and/or continuing professional development other than that gained from initial midwifery registration.
  • exceptional contribution to promoting the art and science of midwifery and the effectiveness of midwives for the benefit of the health of women and their families as demonstrated by:

a) professional and personal development of self and others within the sphere of midwifery practice

b) significant contribution to midwifery through consistent professional excellence in midwifery care and practice, education, research, scholarship, management and any other outstanding development

c) leadership in midwifery practice, leadership, education or research

All Fellows must abide by the Fellowship Code of Conduct and Practice.

Applying to be considered for the Fellowship is a two step process:

  1. Complete the application form.
  2. Pay a £50 registration fee to process your application.

Application form:

Applications can be submitted by any member of the RCM who meets the criteria, using the application form which can be found below. Receipt of all application forms will be acknowledged. 

All applicants are asked to complete an application form that will:

  • detail how each criteria has been met: this may be through one major project, a series of interlinked pieces of work or a number of smaller projects and/or pieces of work
  • list a minimum of two key pieces of supporting evidence
  • Include a condensed professional portfolio containing the evidence as listed of major innovation or development achieved over the previous five years
  • Integral to the portfolio is evidence of peer review gleaned through crucial reflection and through references

Each section of the form must be completed. The statement in support of the nomination should address each of the criteria that the Assessment Panel considers. The application form must be correctly completed, incomplete application forms will not be considered. 

The names, addresses and positions of three referees must be supplied on the form. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that referees have the proforma and guidance.

Pay a £50 registration fee:

To cover the costs in processing your application, you will need to pay a £50 administration fee. The process in paying this fee is below. 

  • Call the membership team on 0207 312 3476 between 9am and 4.30pm, ensuring that you have your card details and membership number ready. 
  • The membership operator will take payment using Worldpay Virtual Terminal.
