Discover the benefits of international membership

We have two categories of international membership.

International membership

  • Become part of the largest and oldest community of midwives in the world.
  • Access member-only content packed with clinical, policy and practice guidelines, research and commentary – all written by midwives for midwives.
  • Online subscriptions to Midwives magazine and Evidence Based Midwifery.
  • Help us influence and contribute to the latest thinking in midwifery.
  • Support our efforts to promote midwifery around the world.

Enhanced international membership

In addition to all of the benefits of standard membership:

  • Access the RCM’s prestigious continuing professional development programme through i-learn currently with over 90 courses that you can complete online.
  • Maintain your professional portfolio and record your career development through the RCM’s recognised i-folio.

International student midwives

If you are an international student midwife, you can join the RCM with the two membership options, as stated above. However, you must be able to prove that you are studying for a recognised midwifery qualification, and we may ask for evidence of this.

* An international member is a midwife outside the UK whose registration has lapsed or who has never been registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council but has a recognised midwifery qualification and is registered with a relevant responsible or statutory body (recognised as such by the director of midwifery of the RCM) in their country of employment or residence.

Refunds to monthly payers

As an RCM member you have the right to have your name deleted (from membership) at any time. In this event, there shall be no rebate of any part of the subscription already paid.

Annual payers

Whilst there is no entitlement, the RCM will allow a refund based on the balance remaining calculated on the monthly rate to the end of the membership year. For example cancelling anywhere in the 6th month of membership will entitle you to a 6-month rebate.

Refunds will be processed via the bank card used for the initial transaction, but please be aware that the prorated refund may vary slightly dependent upon currency fluctuations and the rate calculated by your local bank at the date/time of refund.

The ilearn website is aimed at RCM members in the United Kingdom. International members may also find it of interest, and may use it to inform discussions with those who take decisions about midwifery care. However neither the website nor any part of its content are intended to override the individual responsibility of the user to follow and abide by country-specific local midwifery care legislation.

Your liability

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any:

  • Claims (including third party claims);

  • Losses, demands, costs, expenses (including legal costs and expenses); fines; and/or

  • Any other liabilities whatsoever (including (without limitation)) any liability arising out of any action brought against us for misrepresentation or negligent misstatement arising from any access to or use of the RCM website by you as an international member.
