Maternity services and the staff that work in them are not immune from COVID, even if they have been infected with it before. Despite what a few might think, getting the vaccine and taking up the booster is the best way to protect ourselves, our colleagues and those who seek our care. We are encouraging members to take up the vaccine as the best way to protect themselves.

Infection prevention measures such as regular lateral flow testing, PPE, sufficiently ventilated workplaces, cleaning regimes and hand hygiene etc should be in place regardless of vaccination status. We encourage members who feel hesitant to take up the vaccine to access high quality evidence-based information to ensure that they make an informed decision based on the best available evidence. Midwives and maternity support workers are more likely than many health and social care workers to be exposed to unvaccinated people, as we care for younger members of the population and a lower proportion of the pregnant population are likely to take up vaccination than the general population.

We know that some members may feel hesitant about taking up the vaccine. We would encourage members to access high quality evidence based information about the vaccine to ensure that they make an informed decision based on the best available evidence.
