Lynne Pacanowski

Since undertaking both my nursing and midwifery training at King’s College Hospital (KCH), London over 30 years ago, I have enjoyed a varied career combining clinical work with teaching, research and management.

Following my first midwifery post in Dulwich Hospital, a ‘low risk’ unit, I spent most of my clinical ‘life’ at Guy’s Hospital, initially as a community midwife and then as a labour ward sister. Having qualified as a midwifery teacher in 1991, I then spent almost 10 years teaching at King’s College, London.

My first role in management was as part of a joint appointment between KCL and KCH, and in 2001 I was appointed Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology at St. Mary’s NHS Trust in Paddington. Since April 2008 I have been in my current role as Director of Midwifery and Head of Gynaecology Nursing at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

In addition to my teaching qualification, I have a BSc in Health Studies and a Masters degree in educational research. I am also a Supervisor of Midwives.

I have served on a number of committees including the Midwifery 2020 Steering Committee, the Healthcare for London Clinical Expert Panel, and the London Maternity Network Board.
