Breastfeeding book
This is a heart-warming, encouraging and inspirational DVD, which covers a wide range of breastfeeding issues. It lasts for 130 minutes, but is divided into titled chapters that are particularly useful when used within teaching sessions. It is a US production and focuses on breastfeeding initiatives within the US, but it also gives a global perspective.

Stephanie Scholz Neurohr, a mother of seven, presents the DVD and highlights what she has learnt as a breastfeeding mother. There are also interviews with mothers and well-known specialists, including Dr Thomas Hale and Dr William Sears.

The DVD begins with a detailed section on the benefits of breastfeeding. The rest of the sections include practical ‘how to’ elements and there is superb use of animation demonstrating anatomy and physiology. The ‘how to breastfeed’ section is well done, although it did not mention the benefits of skin-to-skin contact and positions for eliciting the baby’s rooting reflexes. The next sections look at common difficulties ranging from mastitis to tongue tie and information on topics such as returning to work, tandem nursing and extended breastfeeding.

I would highly recommend it for all those supporting breastfeeding mothers and as an excellent educational resource for colleagues or prospective parents.
