Unusual pregnancy cravings

Posted: 2 July 2012 by Hollie Ewers

Cigarette ash, polystyrene and chalk are a few of the most unusual pregnancy cravings according to a new poll.

The survey, by ECigaretteDirect.co.uk, questioned 400 women on the strange cravings they’d had while pregnant.

Other weird items included ice, sardines, soap and horseradish.

One of the women surveyed, who admitted to regularly licking cigarette ash, said she has no idea where the craving came from.

A spokesman from ECigaretteDirect.co.uk said the findings went way beyond ‘unusual’ into the downright bizarre.

He said: ‘The most striking were the non-food items such as cigarette ash, chalk and toothpaste and polystyrene – none of which anybody would typically eat or even taste.

‘It was interesting to note that all of the foods which made the list had particularly strong and distinctive tastes and were often totally different to the expectant mother’s typical diet.’

The top ten unusual cravings were (in no particular order) ice, chilli, cigarette ash, liquorice, soap, raw onion, chalk, grapefruit, sardines and horseradish.
