Success at RCM Awards

Hundreds packed into a top-end London venue to celebrate excellence in midwifery at the RCM awards.

Bio Oil sponsors the RCM Annual Awards 2012
The awards were held at the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden yesterday (25 January) and were hosted by newsreader and presenter Natasha Kaplinsky.

There were 13 awards in total, ranging from promoting normal birth, to innovation in midwifery, to team of the year.

RCM chief executive Cathy Warwick made a speech at the start of the event in which she praised the great work that is being done by members. 

She said: ‘We know it’s tough out there, it’s a hard world we are working in. It’s incredibly important that we remember just how great it is to be a midwife.’


The winners were announced and collected their awards after a three-course lunch. They are:

Pampers award for excellence in postnatal and newborn care:
 Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust: The Kangaroo Care research team



RCM award for promoting normal birth:
NHS Ayrshire and Arran: Donna Burns and Alison Fyfe



Philips Avent award for innovation in midwifery:
 University of Nottingham: Jenny Bailey



Pampers student vision award: 
Rachel Yates: University of Surrey



Mothercare award for supporting families in the community:
 St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust: Allison Wright and Gayle Woods



RCM award for excellence in maternity care: 
CMFT: Kathryn Murphy and Claire Stanley


Pregnacare award for excellence in initiatives in improving public health and reducing inequalities:
 Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust: Sue Hancock and Nicola MacPhail



Johnson's baby award for excellence in midwifery education:
University of Hertfordshire: Francesca Entwistle and Dee Campbell



Bio-Oil team of the year:
South London Healthcare NHS trust: The Oasis Team

NHS employers award for maternity employee of the year: South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust


Johnson’s baby mums’ midwife of the year: South and East: Debbie Oram

National Maternity Support Foundation award supporting training and rewarding excellence in bereavement care:
South Eastern Trust: Hilary Patterson

Thompsons solicitors members’ champion award: Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board: Kath Jones
