Student midwife crowned 'Miss Slinky'

Posted: 6 March 2013 by Helen Bird

A student midwife who dropped five dress sizes ahead of her wedding day has won a national award for her weight loss.

Liz Evans lost more than 5st in less than eight months, dropping from a size 18 to a size 8, and was awarded Slimming World's Miss Slinky 2013 as a result.

The 27 year-old from Liverpool joined weight loss club and RCM Alliance partner Slimming World in January 2012. At 5ft 3in and more than 14st, Liz felt embarrassed about her size.

'I was determined that I wasn't going to feel that way on my wedding day, so on 3 January I went along to my first Slimming World group,' she said.

'After losing 5st I felt fantastic on the day in August and even wore a bikini on my honeymoon, but the best thing is that I finally feel normal – not fat or frumpy.'

Liz began following the club's eating plan, which allows members to fill up on unlimited amounts of everyday foods, such as fruit and vegetables, pasta, lean meat, fish and fat-free dairy, while still enjoying occasional treats like chocolate or wine.

Since then Liz's weight has dropped from just over 14st to 8st 13lbs which, she reports, is the lightest she's been since school.

She said: 'It's completely changed my life. Doing 13-hour shifts and being on my feet all day as a student midwife was horrendous, but now it's much easier and I don't feel like a hypocrite when I'm talking to mums-to-be about healthy eating and nutrition.

'I've been at my target weight for five months now and I know I'll never go back to the old Liz.'
