Strike threats over workload stress
Midwives magazine: Issue 7 :: 2011
Midwives at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda are threatening to strike following the death of a senior midwife colleague.
They claim overwork caused the death of their colleague. More than 300 medical workers, including doctors and nurses, say they too have developed stress-related diseases because of being overworked. The hospital’s medical superintendent admitted staff are overworked as the hospital receives at least 1000 patients daily, despite only having a capacity of 300 beds.
