The grant, around £20,000, has been given to Josephine Holleran and will be used to fund her research on whether computers in birthing rooms affect the care that women receive.
She said: ‘This study will look at the impact of computers on communication between women, their birth partner and the midwife and whether the time spent inputting data affects the time spent supporting the women.’
Josephine is based at Burnley General Hospital, Lancashire, and will be carrying out her research at the University of Central Lancashire.
There is another grant of up to £20,000 currently available for trainee midwives who want to get involved in research.
Applicants will not normally have been involved in substantial research projects. All awards must be undertaken in the UK.
