RCM midwife film goes global

Posted: 27 July 2011 by Louise Hunt

The RCM has created a DVD to explain the work of midwives in reducing maternal and infant mortality worldwide.

The artistically animated short film called Midwives Work is designed to be used globally. It was premiered at the International Confederation of Midwives Congress in Durban, South Africa in June, and this week has been launched on the RCM website.

‘This is a great advocacy tool,’ said Frances Day-Stirk, RCM director of learning research and practice development. ‘The positive feedback (in Durban) was tremendous, with midwives, obstetricians, activists and policy makers from countries across the world asking to use the DVD to support their work in reducing maternal and infant mortality, and protecting and supporting the role of the midwife.'

She added that two global groups: the White Ribbon Alliance for safe motherhood and The State of the World’s Midwifery Report have also requested to add a link to the video on their websites.
