Opportunity to influence CQC function

Posted: 03 August 2011 by Louise Hunt

The RCM is calling for responses to the consultation on proposed changes to regulation for Care Quality Commission (CQC) registration.

RCM deputy general secretary Louise Silverton is coordinating the midwife response and is particularly interested in feedback relating to the registration of independent midwives and changes to 'mixed medical practices'. Comments on any other areas of interest are also welcome.

The consultation was prompted by a review of the first year of the new registration system operated by CQC that highlighted a number of areas in the regulations that could be improved upon.

The proposals include changes to the regulation of healthcare services that, subject to consultation responses and the parliamentary process, could be implemented in 2012.

Responses via the RCM should be sent no later than 23 September. One option is to use the consultation questionnaire on the Department of Health website for inputting feedback and email to louise.silverton@rcm.org.uk

The consultation opened on 18 July and closes on 7 October.
