The RCM is set to launch a new website to raise awareness of problems the profession is experiencing in the UK.
The RCM is set to launch a new website to raise awareness of problems the profession is experiencing in the UK.
Its aim will be to encourage midwives and the public to warn of staffing cuts and problems.
The site is set to go live in the next few weeks, but the exact date has not yet been confirmed.
Information posted on the site will add to that which is currently gathered by local officers and representatives.
RCM head of policy Sean O’Sullivan said that drive behind the idea is to ‘monitor what’s happening on the ground’.
It will also be a device for ensuring that inappropriate cost savings aren’t taking place.
Sean said that while trusts might not be laying off staff or closing units, the cumulative effect of cuts – such as reducing visits to new mothers – could still be significant.
The website will be launched as part of the RCM’s Protect Maternity Services campaign.
