Tommy's has launched a free 94-page colour book, which has advice for those who have recently had premature babies and women at risk of pre-term labour.
It explains premature birth and potential causes and preventions, looks at what to expect in the early days, and has a chapter on taking your baby home.
It also includes a chapter on parent wellbeing and why it is important to look after yourself, as well as your baby, during this difficult time.
Beckie Lang, health campaigns manager for Tommy’s, said: ‘Getting the right look and feel of the guide has been an important aspect of its development.
‘Having a premature baby or being told you are at risk of pre-term birth can be a very overwhelming time for parents, so the guide needs to be as user friendly as possible.
‘We feel that we have achieved an effective balance between a style and layout that is engaging, and content that is accurate and understandable.
‘As such, we hope this new guide helps parents understand what is happening to them and their baby, and provides support and advice every step of the way.’
The book was developed and produced thanks to a grant from the Asda Foundation.
All information is evidence-based and the guide was written with the help of a steering group of health professionals with expertise in pre-term birth.
The content is also based on feedback from parents of premature babies, who providing stories and tips for people going through similar experiences.
