Deadline extended for RCM awards

Posted: 5 September 2011 by Rob Dabrowski

The application deadline for the 2012 RCM Annual Midwifery Awards has been extended to the end of this week.

Midwives now have until 5pm on Friday (9 September) to make submissions for the awards, which take place in January 2012.

The extension has been made in order to give those who haven’t yet had the chance to apply a few more days to do so.

Sue Macdonald, RCM education and research manager, said: ‘This is the last chance for those who haven’t yet had the opportunity to get their applications in for the prestigious RCM Awards.

‘We are looking forward to even more fantastic contributions from midwives at all levels to showcase and celebrate their work, projects and achievements in midwifery and maternity care.

‘The awards are such a special opportunity for midwives to highlight their unique and important work, and promote their role in the maternity service to others in the acute and community sectors and indeed to the wider world.

‘I think it is crucial that midwives look at the award categories, and think about whether the work they are doing, or their colleagues are doing would meet the criteria, and then apply.’

There is a wide selection of categories in the awards, which are held to celebrate excellence in midwifery.

There are awards for excellence in partnership working and in midwifery education, promoting normal birth and innovation.

Cathy Warwick, RCM general secretary, encouraged midwives to apply and said the awards are a ‘great chance to recognise and celebrate the incredible job that midwives do’.

The awards are open to all RCM members and you can apply for more than one category.

A shortlisted will be drawn up and announced in September this year (2011), after which finalists will be invited to an interview with a panel of RCM staff.

The awards lunch will be held on 25 January 2012, at the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden, London.

The event will take place 12.30pm-4pm and includes a drinks reception and lunch.

Tickets can now be booked and cost £89+vat for RCM members or £150+vat for non-members.

All midwives shortlisted for awards will receive one complimentary ticket and group booking discounts are available.
