A celebrity comedy night at London’s Comedy Store in Piccadilly kicked off Baby Lifeline’s 30th birthday celebrations in true style last night.

‘Laughs for little lives’ saw a host of comedy stars take to the stage to raise money for the mother and baby charity.

The charity’s patron actor Sir Ben Kingsley introduced the night promising ‘I’m not going to tell any jokes’. He was accompanied by CEO Judy Ledger and Professor James Walker, president of Baby Lifeline training.

Professor Walker said: ‘The money that you are providing tonight allows us not only to further train more doctors and midwives in looking after women with high-risk pregnancies, but in particular in providing equipment and support for such women and their babies.’

The charity has pledged to raise £250,000 this year for Birmingham’s Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital.

Judy Ledger said: ‘I admire the midwifery profession – it is a very difficult job. My hands go up in horror at the shortage of midwives.

‘Baby Lifeline wants to support midwives even more by providing further, hopefully part-funded CTG training opportunities.’

Judy urged those units that need further equipment or are interested in Baby Lifeline’s CPD training sessions to contact her.
