It has launched the campaign after the announcement that it is to sponsor the
2012 RCM annual awards.
Its campaign, Skin Stories, comes after research revealed one in three women feel self-conscious, embarrassed, worried or ashamed about having stretch marks or scars.
It found on average every woman has three scars and nearly half (43%) have stretch marks somewhere on their body whether from puberty, pregnancy or weight gain.
The campaign will be centered around a
Facebook page, which will encourage women of all ages to upload their ‘skin stories’ as inspiration to empower others to think positively about their skin.
The drive comes as Bio-Oil supports the RCM by sponsoring the awards, which take place in January.
A spokesman said: ‘We are delighted to announce that in 2012, we will be supporting the RCM Annual Awards as headline sponsor.
‘We have shown on-going commitment to the RCM over the last few years.
‘And in 2012 we want to extend our support of the RCM and, as headline sponsor, help recognise excellence in the industry and reward exceptional individuals and teams working in midwifery.
‘We value any activity that acknowledges the important role midwives play in the health industry.
‘And we hope our involvement as headline sponsor of these awards will be one of many exciting partnerships to look forward to in 2012.’
For its Skin Stories campaign, the company will donate £1 to the British Skin Foundation for every story shared.
This money will be used to help fund research into skin health.
Alongside real women, celebrities will be sharing their stories and experts will be offering advice and tips.
Julie Lardieg, Bio-Oil brand manager, said: ‘For many people, scarring is not simply a cosmetic issue but something that impacts their self-esteem and confidence.
‘It can lead to anxiety and feelings of shame, which often prevents patients from asking their healthcare advisor for the help they need.
‘The new Skin Stories campaign gives people access to up to date advice, as well as support from their peers.
‘They can choose to use the group to learn how to minimise scarring and stretch marks, or go further and, through sharing experiences, learn to accept their body.’
