All these midwives have registered in the last year and are now sharing their views and resources online.
It is the place for RCM members to go and discuss the pressing issues of the day and share their thoughts on hot topics.
There are a range of groups to join, including student midwives, MSWs, consultants and professors of midwifery, among others.
Recent discussions on Communities have included: the effect proposed pension reforms will have, and whether we are beginning to see the ‘creeping privatisation’ of midwifery.
But it’s not all hard-hitting topics, there are also more lighthearted conversations and debates, such as the best songs to give birth to.
Emma Godfrey-Edwards, RCM Communities manager, said: ‘It’s a really great resource and an easily accessible way for members to share opinions and debate what matters in midwifery.
‘We are very proud that we’ve reached 1000 members in just over a year and we look forward to seeing more midwives sign-up in 2012.
‘So, if you’ve got colleagues who aren’t on Communities, get them on board – the more members we have the more depth of discussion there will be.’
Communities is free to join and can’t be viewed by the general public, so any posts and discussions will be between you and your midwifery colleagues.
