The community area is for midwives to discuss issues affecting their professional lives.
The guidelines below are based on a commonsense view on what is, and is not, appropriate behaviour. Postings will be checked by forum moderators and site administrators. Objectionable content will be removed.
Please note all comments made express the views and opinions of the author/commenter and are not necessarily shared by the Royal College of Midwives or Redactive Publishing Ltd.
Be nice
Be respectful of all users at all times and you won’t go far wrong. Be considerate of people and their views and always reply in a polite way, even if you disagree with them. Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to their beliefs, if you can’t agree then agree to disagree and move on.
Language
Do not use offensive language.
Spamming
These forums are for discussion, not for advertising. Moderators will not post advertisements, solicitations or promotional materials.
Personal attacks
Messages that personally attack other users of the forum (often called ‘flames’) will not be tolerated.
Baiting
Do not post a reply that is intended solely to start an argument.
Privacy
Do not post your email or postal address, telephone or mobile numbers, or any other personal information that you don’t want spammers, scammers or the general public to see.
Offensive material
Do not post any offensive material, including any messages that are ethnically, racially, religiously or sexually offensive, insulting or demeaning. If you wouldn't like it said about you, don't say it about others. This sort of material is unacceptable.
Communication
Please try to communicate as clearly as possible so that everybody can read your posts. You may find the following points helpful:
-
Please write your posts in English
-
When writing a post, space out paragraphs with an empty line in between
-
Do not write in all uppercase letters – it looks like you are shouting
-
Refrain from using slang or ‘text-speech’ (‘LOL’, ‘btw’ and so on), acronyms or abbreviations unless they are common knowledge (‘RCM' etc)
-
Typos and errors can cause miscommunication so please read your post before submitting it
