Student midwives working group

Are you concerned about the issues facing student midwives?  Could you be a voice for student midwifery?

The RCM Student Midwives Working Group currently has vacancies for student members from Wales and England.

The RCM Student Midwives Working Group (SMWG) debates and discusses issues affecting student midwives at local and national levels, to inform the work of the RCM on behalf of student members.  Established by the RCM in 1991, SMWG is responsible for making the RCM Council aware of current issues affecting student midwives.

The SMWG leads the RCM Student Midwives’ Conference each year, uniquely planned by students for students, as a platform for students to share and exchange their experiences.

Each of the four countries in the UK is represented by two students.  The Group is supported by the RCM Learning, Research, Practice Development and International Department.  The Group meets 3 times a year, in February, June and October at RCM Headquarters in Central London. Reasonable expenses are paid for members to attend meetings.

Participating in the Group is a rewarding way to network with other student midwives across the UK and the leaders of your profession, to be actively involved in the RCM, and to make a difference to the experience of current and future student midwives.

If you would like to apply to become a member of the group, please submit an application which includes:

· Name of the higher education institution which you attend, title of your midwifery course and start and completion dates of your course

· A brief statement of support from your Head of Midwifery Education and 5 current student midwives at your educational establishment.

· Reasons for wishing to be selected and your vision and goals for future (no more than 250 words on a separate sheet please), including the issues which concern you as a student.

· Your RCM membership number
