Return to Midwifery Programme

 

The Royal College of Midwives offers a flexible up to date programme to support midwives returning to practice. The programme has recently been updated to reflect current changes in practice, and also feedback suggested from previous students. Click here for an overview of the programme.

 

What do you need to do?

 

1. Email your CV marked “Return to Midwifery Practice” to: returntopractice@rcm.org.uk

.

2. The RCM will send you a letter confirming the number of clinical practice hours required – this is dependent on years out of practice and varies from 450 -900  in accordance with NMC prep (NMC – PREP) and programme requirements.

3. Find a practice placement. Contact the Head of Midwifery at your local maternity unit to secure your clinical practice placement. The maternity unit must:

o       Provide a named RCM mentor;

o       Provide a named supervisor;

o       Undertake a criminal records bureau check

Provide occupational health support including the necessary immunisation and vaccination. For a list of maternity units please see Birthchoice UK.

4. Complete the RCM Application form and LSBU form & email them to returntopractice@rcm.org.uk

5. Course cost: The cost of the course is £1000 as course fees and additional £80.00 for assessment process and registration with London South Bank University.

6. Funding: This is provided by either the NHS trust or the Strategic Health Authority.
