Stewards: Balancing work and personal life

There is no specific requirement in the AfC NHS Terms and Conditions of Service Handbook for individual employers to provide employees with access to leave arrangements which support them in balancing their work responsibilities with their personal commitments.

However, arrangements should be part of an integrated policy of efficient and employee-friendly employment practices, which should be seen as operating in conjunction with other provisions, particularly the Employment Break Scheme, Flexing Work Positively and the Caring for Children and Adults Sections as well as any statutory requirements which are listed below.

Arrangements should be agreed between employers and local trade union representatives in respect of parental leave, paternity leave, adoption leave and time off for domestic arrangements.

AfC provisions, and what the law says on each of these areas, are outlined below with references for further reading.
