Honorary Fellows of the RCM

 Q.1      What is an Honorary Fellow of the RCM?

 

A.1      An Honorary Fellow is a person whom the RCM has recognised as having made an outstanding contribution, or given outstanding service, to midwifery, maternity services, services for women and their families or to the RCM.

 

Q.2      How is the honour bestowed?

 

A.2      The name of the person being honoured is included on the RCM’s Register of Honorary Fellows.

 

Q.3      Who can nominate a person to be included on the Register of Honorary Fellows?

 

A.3      Any member of The Royal College of Midwives.

 

Q.4      What is the nomination procedure?

 

A.4      Write to the General Secretary at the above address with the following information. To reduce the risk of disappointment if a nomination is unsuccessful, please avoid alerting the person to the fact that you are nominating her. If that is unavoidable please explain to the person being nominated that there is no guarantee that the nomination will be successful.

 

Information to be included in your letter to the General Secretary

 

About you

i.          Your full name.

ii.         Your RCM membership number.

iii.        Your postal address.

iv.        Your e-mail address.

v.         Your telephone number.

 

About the person you wish to nominate.

 

i.          Her / his full name.

ii.         Her / his postal address.

Iii.        Her / his e-mail address (if known).

iv.        Her / his telephone number (if known).

v.                   Describe as best you can the outstanding contribution, or outstanding service, made by the person you are nominating.  Please use your own words and do not submit academic type CVs.

vi.        When was that outstanding contribution made or the outstanding services performed?

vii.        Give the names and addresses of any persons who support the nomination.

 

Q.5      What are the entitlements of Honorary Fellowship?

 

A.5      An Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Midwives:

  • may describe herself as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Midwives and use the letters (Hon)FRCM after her name and statutory qualifications;
  • will receive a certificate indicating that she is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Midwives;
  • will receive a distinctive insignia which she may wear to show that she is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Midwives;
  • may include her citation (up to 300 words) in the Library of the Royal College of Midwives Trust; and
  • may be invited by the College to attend, either alone or with other Honorary Fellows, forums concerning midwifery and related matters.
