If you want to find out more about becoming an RCM Member and the benefits it brings, contact your local RCM office:

The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) is a modern and powerful organisation that is dedicated exclusively to midwives and their profession. This is why almost all practising midwives in the UK are RCM Full Members. As well as those outlined in the overview box, if you are a qualified midwife you can also enjoy the following benefits:

  • The RCM is the only trade union in the UK that provides field-based staff who combine midwifery professional know-how with expertise on workplace issues. RCM officials are practising midwives as well as skilled and experienced trade union negotiators.

  • You have direct local access to over 900 workplace-based stewards and health and safety representatives, who are themselves midwives working in the NHS.

  • RCM branches which provide a friendly and welcoming forum for midwives to meet on a regular basis.

  • Have your say about RCM policy and how the RCM is run, by voting or standing in the elections to the RCM’s governing Council; attend and debate motions at the RCM Conference; take a role in special interest groups such as the Ethics Committee, the RCM Student Forum or the Heads of Midwifery Advisory Group.

  • Access to RCM professional development programmes, designed to meet the challenges of contemporary midwifery practice and fulfil PREP requirements.

  • Free guidance, advice and support on all areas of professional practice from midwifery advisors who are leaders in their field.

  • Keep abreast of the latest topical and controversial issues affecting the profession through our policy papers and publications.

  • Free subscription to Midwives, the only magazine from a membership organisation devoted exclusively to midwifery and containing the latest jobs, news, research and developments in midwifery.

  • Access to on-line articles from the RCM Evidence-Based Midwifery Journal.
