Special category associate member

Midwives who are currently also a full member of The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and wish to benefit from membership of both organisations.  (A full member of the RCM may also apply to become an associate member of the RCN).


Benefits comprise: 

  • Medical Malpractice insurance -If you were previously a Full Member of the RCM before transferring to this category, Special Category Associate Membership includes Medical Malpractice cover for liability for damages awarded for injury, death or illness alleged to have been caused by malpractice in the provision of professional services,relating to incidents which occurred while an RCM Full member.  You will not be covered for incidents which occurred after ceasing to be a Full Member.

  • Representation for Nursing and Midwifery Council proceedings - We will represent you at Nursing and Midwifery Council proceedings if you are referred for incidents which occurred while a Full member of the RCM prior to entering this category.  You will not be represented with regard to incidents which occurred after your Full Membership ceased.

  • Online learning portal i-learn  and online portfolio i-folio

  • Keep up to date with email newsletters

  • Learning and development resources including practice guidelines, research articles and publications  through the RCM Library and Bookshop

  • Membership of your local RCM Branch
