Who can join?
If you are employed in a role which supports midwives in the care of childbearing women, the newborn and their family (for example, you are a Maternity Support Worker, Maternity Care Assistant, Nursery Nurse working in Maternity or similar role supporting midwives), you are eligible to join the RCM as an MSW Member.
What are the benefits?
Support for you at work
When facing difficulties at work, MSW members are supported with employment relations advice and representation from some 900 RCM workplace stewards, health and safety representatives and our Regional/National Officers. Our workplace representatives are qualified midwives or may be fellow maternity support workers, who understand your work in the maternity team and are fully trained to support, represent and negotiate. [find out more about how we train our representatives here]. We also represent and support our members collectively, for example during reconfiguration of services, and nationally, for example on pay, terms and conditions and pensions.
Your membership provides employment-related legal advice and representation when you need it through our Legal Assistance scheme, including personal injury cases.
