European Forum of National Nursing and Midwifery Associations

The Royal College of Midwives is a full member of the European Forum of National Nursing and Midwifery Associations (EFNNMA) and World Health Organization (WHO), which was founded in November 1996 to help deliver the public health agenda for Europe into the 21st century.

The Forum aims to:

  • Contribute to, and inform the debate on improving health and the quality of health care in Europe

  • Promote the exchange of information, ideas and policies between midwifery/nursing associations and the WHO

  • Support the integration of appropriate policies in line with the Health for All philosophy into nursing/midwifery practice, as well as into basic, postgraduate and continuing nursing and midwifery education

  • Formulate consensus/policy statements and recommendations on health and nursing/midwifery related issues, developed in consensus and

  • Undertake pilot projects

 

The Forum has held annual meetings since October 1997 and reports of these, together with occasional news bulletins and the newsletter, Health Care in Transition, are available from:
