The Royal College of Midwives, since its foundation in 1881, has sought to work with and support midwives from all over the world, through international fora and committees and by fostering links with individual midwives and associations.
Information about some of these activities and the main international organisations and initiatives behind them are given in this section.

HAITI EARTHQUAKE EMERGENCY RESPONSE FUND
The RCM has donated £500 as a start-up contribution to support Merlin (NGO) which has a strong long-term presence in Haiti and is involved in significant work in the maternal and child health field. A collection of over £600 was also raised at the Annual Midwifery Awards on the 27th Jan, which will also be going towards the relief fund.
The RCM Boards for the UK are also making arrangements in each of the countries, by involving members to build up further donations, for example:
- RCM UK Board for Wales plan to hold a collection at the St David’s Day Conference on the 25th Feburary
- RCM UK Board for England plan to do collection at the Mothers and Midwives Collaborative Conference for the maternity family on 15 April 2010 in Bradford and at various other events such as the Professional discussion forums.
If you have not had an opportunity to contribute to the Haiti Relief Fund and wish to donate, please click here to visit the Merlin website and to make your contribution.
