5000 More Midwives! e-petition
Here at the RCM we are campaigning hard to protect maternity services. It is a hard job given the intense pressure on public spending in each part of the UK and, in England, this is made worse by the upheaval caused by the reforms to the health service being pushed through Parliament. But there are three ways in which you can help us right now.
Firstly, please sign the petition that the RCM General Secretary, Cathy Warwick, has officially lodged with Parliament. It calls on the Government to recruit an extra 5000 midwives into the NHS in England (Parliament is only responsible for the NHS in England) to fill the desperate shortfall. You can sign by clicking HERE and filling in your details. We have a year to get to 100,000, which seems like a massive threshold, but there is a lot of support out there for midwives. Please sign it, then let friends, family and colleagues know about it.
Postcard
Help spread the word with our more midwives postcard (on the right). To request your postcards please email us your name, address and how many postcards you would like to marketingofficer@rcm.org.uk
Tweet and Poke - NEW TWIBBON
Secondly let your friends on twitter and Facebook know about the campaign and ask for their support. If you use twitter why not spread the message with our twibbon? By uploading our banner onto your profile picture with the #moremidwives message, you can alert all your followers to the epetition. Or use the links to twitter and facebook to publicise the post in RCM Communities which explains what you need to do.
Protect
Thirdly sign up to support the Protect Maternity Services campaign. You can do this by filling in your details below. Sign up below and we will update you on what’s happening with the campaign, and you will be amongst the first to know the latest developments.
We are combining this kind of new online campaigning with good, old-fashioned campaigning too. In March, RCM staff, midwives and student midwives marched behind the union banner in the colossal March for the Alternative in London. Read the report and see the pictures here.
Thank you for all your support so far. Together we will keep on fighting to protect maternity services.
If you’d like to stay in touch about the campaign, please leave your details below.
