Payment by Results

Payment by Results, first introduced in 2003, is intended to bring more transparency to NHS funding by actually paying for the care which patients receive.

The RCM and Department of Health have jointly published a guide which seeks to provide an easily understandable summary of how the Payment by Results (PbR) funding system works for maternity services.

The guide explains:

- the background to the introduction of PbR

- how the tariffs have been calculated

- how PbR applies to births (including home births), antenatal care, antenatal admissions and postnatal care
