The UK Scotland office offers support and information to the Scottish membership of approximately 3750 members. It provides the Council or General Secretary, as appropriate, with a country-specific perspective on matters relating to policy, legislation, the Scottish Parliament, statutory and professional bodies and trade unions. It also acts to receive, interpret and disseminate information, develop relations with relevant bodies and agencies within Scotland and extend the influence of the College throughout Scotland.
The RCM in Scotland fulfils a strategic role in the education and professional development of midwives. The education support offered has reflected what is happening in the maternity services and the requirements associated with that. Conferences, study days and seminars are arranged to meet the needs of members in both urban and remote and rural areas.
It continues its involvement in local and national research and education and also works with universities and colleges of further education. In addition it contributes to national and international education, research, policy and practice development issues.
