The new RCM fellowship was awarded to Julia Magill-Cuerden, who has worked as a midwife and lecturer in Scotland, Malawi, New Zealand and England. Over the last 30 years, she has been committed to the development of midwifery education and was responsible for introducing curriculum innovations, including the first midwifery degree. Through her writing and reviewing, Julia has promoted the quality of midwifery and nursing publications and encouraged others to do the same.

The honour goes to Julia in recognition of the fact that her professional achievement, scholarship and leadership have made an exceptional contribution to promoting and advancing midwifery.
