Equality and Diversity News and Updates
RCM joins Stonewall Diversity Champion Programme
The RCM has joined the Stonewall Diversity Champion Programme. Stonewall is Britain’s leading lesbian, gay and bisexual equality charity and was established in 1989. The RCM is joining over 600 employers who are part of Diversity Champion Programme. The programme helps develop and promote inclusive workplace cultures to ensure that all staff can perform to their full potential.
This means that the RCM will have networking and influencing opportunities with other Diversity Champions, including many in the health sector. We will also be able to work with Stonewall on future projects including their campaigns, like their most recent campaign ‘One is Gay’.
The ‘One is Gay’ campaign has been launched to tackle homophobia in Britain’s workplaces. The campaign comes in response to YouGov polling which shows that in the last five years 2.4m people of working age have witnessed verbal homophobic bullying at work. The result is that over a quarter of lesbian, gay and bisexual people are not at all open to colleagues about their sexual orientation. This means that a lot of people are spending a lot of time concealing who they really are rather than performing to their very best at work.
Stonewall have produced posters which feature two people at work and says: ‘One is gay. If that bothers people, our work continues’. The campaign posters will appear on over 600 buses in London, Cardiff and Edinburgh as well as on 4,000 adverts on the London Underground. Each Diversity Champion gets a copy of the poster with their logo to show their support.
The RCM is proud to support the campaign and will display the poster in our offices. We would like you to print and display the poster in your workplace too. You can download the poster here.
