The Royal College of Midwives is committed to playing a leading role in the elimination of discrimination and the promotion of equality of opportunity and diversity in all its activities as a trade union, professional organisation and employer.
To ensure that the service the RCM delivers is responsive to the diverse needs of its membership a strategy for the next three years has been developed which reflects good practice as well as our legal responsibilities.
To assist in the development of the RCM Equality and Diversity Strategy the RCM commissioned a specialist equality and diversity company with a wide portfolio that includes NHS organisations. Diversity Marketplace has worked with RCM staff and a range of focus groups to identify the actions required to bring the strategy to life.
During August/September 2010 the RCM consulted with RCM members and other stakeholders on the Strategy. The Strategy went live in December 2010. The RCM has set up a Monitoring Group to oversee the delivery of the Action Plan.
