RCM Cycle Team

The RCM Cycle Team reach the finish line and their fundraising target!

On May 9th 2012 a team of nine RCM staff began the challenge of a lifetime by cycling from London to Paris, in support of the National Maternity Support Foundation.

The team began under heavy cloud and light rain fall, but happy in the knowledge that they had already reached their £14,000 fundraising target. The gruelling task take four days to complete and saw the team cover 300 miles in aid of the worthy charity.

A big thank you to all of those that sponsored the team with a special thanks to  our main sponsors ramsac.

The RCM  work in partnership with National Maternity Support Foundation (NMSF) to consult closely with them on issues surrounding maternity care. Profesor Cathy Warwick CBE, General Secretary of the RCM also acts as the NMSF lead Patron and will be joining in the RCM team to cycle from London to Paris.

The Challenge
  • Day 1 - Our challenge begins bright and early from South London heading through rural Kent. Our path winds through traditional British countryside, along the North Downs Way before reaching the white cliffs of Dover before boarding a ferry across to Calais.
  • Day 2 - Reaching Northern France we travel south through Desvres and continue through windy roads along the valley of the Canche River.
  • Day 3 - We follow the River Somme out of Abbeville, finishing in Beauvais, covering 70 miles.
  • Day 4 - Our final day of cycling sees the big push to Paris our final destination.

NMSF is Jake's Charity. It was set up following the tragic stillbirth of Jake Canter due to the nearest hospital maternity unit being closed. NMSF's founding principles are to take a 'proactive educative approach' to maternity care occupying the 'sensible middle ground' of public opinion and improve maternity care. NMSF offers Jake’s Scholarship to midwives wanting to become specialist bereavement midwife counsellors.
