Promoting Breastfeeding with Mothercare from 23rd –  29th June 2013

The RCM is once again working together with RCM Alliance Partner Mothercare to host informal advice clinics for parents in Mothercare stores.  This is a great opportunity for midwives, maternity support workers and infant feeding advisors to meet women and families in a non-threatening environment to talk about breastfeeding.  The week of activities in all four UK countries (hosted by Mothercare) will take place from 23rd –  29th June 2013.

Mothercare has hosted and supported in-store activities with midwives and infant feeding advisers over many years.  Being involved in activities during this week is an excellent opportunity to engage with parents and their wider family - partners, sisters and grandparents – who have an impact on how well some women do with breastfeeding and also provide encouragement to give breastfeeding ago.  Following the tremendous success of the previous 2 years of Breastfeeding Week activities, since Mothercare became an RCM Alliance Partner, we hope to offer even more opportunities this year.  The RCM is working with Mothercare especially to provide additional support in areas where the rates of breastfeeding are particularly low to help encourage more women to consider breastfeeding and to continue to breastfeed for longer.

Mothercare is inviting local midwives to take part in the informal advice points, or any other activities which they might like to suggest, within or close to their local Mothercare store during the week beginning 17th June (any time or day from Monday to Friday or even at the weekend). A suitable seating and small table area will be made available within the store (the location to be decided with the professionals and the store manager) and activities will be advertised in store.
