Structure

Introduction

The RCM is organised as follows:

Council: Responsible for governance of the RCM (includes setting strategic direction)

The Boards providing services to members, giving a voice to midwifery in each of the UK countries

HQ supporting the Boards, linking midwives across the UK

The College is governed by an elected Council of practising midwives, which sets the strategic direction for implementation by the staff.

Each of the four UK countries - Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England - has its own RCM Board providing education and research, professional affairs and employment relations services to midwives in those countries.

Over 200 RCM branches hold regular meetings for members where they can give and receive support as well as discuss professional and workplace issues.

The RCM has many different working groups and committees. These include the Consultant Midwives group, founded in 2001 to influence the national research and practise agenda.
